The running shoe whore

my running shoe collection
Sometimes Mrs W says that I have too many runnning shoes. How unreasonable! Surely only a runner (or in my case would-be runner) would understand these things and using this line of logic a long time ago decided never to mention her collection of housey magazines.

The thing is I kind of get attached to the old fellas and as I pick them up to throw them out I remember old races/places/people and PBs and think... maybe next clean out. Am I strange?

Please post photos of your running shoe collections so I don't feel so alone....

I get more attached to the boxes they come in. I recently turfed out five or six but still have at least that many stacked up in the garage.

My old runners are lying about the place, but I don't keep them oredered like that. A couple of mine are "in disgrace" after possibly causing my injury. I still can't throw them away though. I'd like to send them OS to countries where they don't have running shoes, but I wonder whether they will be any good to these people given that I have already found that they aren't suitable for running in anymore.

No, you're most definitely not alone. Last time I cleared out my old and trusty runners, it nearly broke my heart. You just don't throw them away after all you've been through together.

I can't bear to part with some pairs of shoes - they're like old friends. My first (red) pair of DS trainers introduced me to track work and the Sandy group, my current (yellow) pair took their first steps on my pb Half at Melbourne last year and my special 'Canberra' pair of GT 2100s gave me a pb marathon (they are the same colour as another pair but were inscribed with a big C under the tongue as soon as I get them home).
They all last for years as walking shoes - and remind me of good days, pleasant times and pbs.

It is easy to get attached to them... My family is always asking, another pair??
Still I've given away the pairs that don't work for me anymore, the temptation to use them again is strong! At the moment, I just have 3 pairs :(, but another pair is on my way!! I'll show them latter to you!

I LOVE IT!!! I have a thing for NON-RUNNING shoes, but wait till I show my hubby this! Now he's gotta let me buy more running shoes! Thanks!

Great post! My old shoes are all stashed away and some have faced early retirement after bad races. I think they deserve to come out of the garage for one last bow ;-)

Unfortunately I am not camera savvy or else I would post a picture of my collection, but I assure you you are not alone. I even have a couple pair of yellow brooks cascadia trail shoes that always get lots of comments.

Oh Wobbly, this is very close to my heart! There isn't a lens large enough to photograph all the old runners (not the people kind!) I have lying around the house & in the garage! It's a bit like an Imelda Marcos closet!! And they're just the ones I haven't given to "Vinnies"!!

That's a pretty funny bit about the shoes. My wife and I both run so we've got closets full of old friends.
