The pony tail effect...

So I am out on a 14k run this morning and having travelled about 8kms. I'm feeling fine and slowly catching an older woman when I hear two women runners talking as the are approaching from behind.

I decided I wanted to overtake the older woman so I took my pace up a little and then aited to be overtaken. So two absolute glamour girls prance on by me and I think I will see if I can stay with them for a bit. 2 kms later I am still on their tail and I figure I might be making them nervous.

Why is it when your mind tells you that you can run faster than you thought, that you can? At other times when I want to go a bit faster I do and only last a couple of lamp posts before having to drop my pace back a to "normal". This I have dubbed the pony tail effect - I must try using it in my next race!!

Note to self: when running more than 10kms on a warm morning - tape up!!!
