Capital City Trail

I should have known it wasn't going to be a good day. First I couldn't find my hat and then I ended up running late to pick up Greybeard. It pretty much went down hill from there.

The Capital City Trail is a path that circles Melbourne (30.4kms)and is used by walkers and cyclists alike - today it was also used by three would be Canberra Marathon runners. Well, two runners actually and a Wobbly Man doing a very poor impersonation of a runner.

It was my first time on the Trail and wow - what a great place to run! An ever changing vista starting at the new Docklands, down past the casino and up along the tranquil Yarra river with its many rowers, past Dights Falls, along the meandering Merri Creek and up along an old tram route ending up underneath a huge elevated freeway in a kind of surreal futuristic combination of creek, concrete and railway (I will definitely take a camera next time). It is a fantastic long run route and one I will definitely do again - hopefully in better form though. It is undulating and has ample shade most of the time.

I felt okay for about the first 10kms and then felt like cr*p for the last 20! Thank you Rob and Andrew for your eternal patience with me as I took my many walk breaks and rests. I'm not sure why I was in such poor form. The last time this happened I came down with the flu - I hope that isn't the case this time. I think the long run step-back in my program that I ignored last week will be very welcome next weekend. I will drop it back to about 18-20kms.

Tomorrow I will try and put in an easy 10k run just to turn over the legs.

Great Effort!!!! Especially when your not feeling 100% It always amazes me how different your body can feel from day to day- speedy one day and then cement legs the next! That one will go in the bank for Canberra...at least you know you can keep going when it gets tough! Gulp I have 30 tommorow as well!

I hope your run tomorrow feels much better than today. hope you had a nice Aussie day yesterday!

Yeah, I like your idea of wearing a track police tshirt - the whistle would be great! I very seldom run on that ridiculous track. The problem is that by the time i get home from work, it is too dark outside to run and so I typically run on the treadmill. Besides, right now I am staying off concrete until my foot is back to 100%.

Have a great weekend!

PS I think there is actually a web site somewhere that details the entire trail - pictures and directions included as some bits can get a bit vague....

Don't be too hard on yourself Wobbly - I've had good and bad long runs in the last couple of months. Perseverance and consistency are the 2 important factors and if you have to take walking breaks, so be it. Its time on your feet that counts in long runs. Sounds like a beautiful run though.

What a shame you couldn't enjoy such a wonderful place the entire run, maybe you needed to have some sports drinks to do it better.
Don't even think about the flu, take vit and all the remedies, I hate flu. It doesn't aloud you to run...
I'll be waiting for the photos.
You have nice places to run!!
Thanks for asking, I am planning to travel to Mexico city and run the Marathon there, is in august.

Thats the great thing about running. We never know when you are going have a great day or a sad day.

You had your sad day....so the great one is coming up.

Still, regardless of the rest/walk breaks it is all about time of your feet and you certainly accomplished that. Well Done I say.

Sounds like a great run next time I'm in Melbourne, say around Sept when the Crows make the finals. and as suggested, I'll check out the web for a map...

It's a great run the Capital City Trail, I've done it two or three times a few years ago.

If you ever need another runner, make up numbers, I'd be interested.
